Privacy Policy

Overview
LuNAC is an astronomical calendar app. This policy describes what information we collect, how we use it, how we store it, and your choices regarding your data. This policy applies to both the LuNAC mobile application and the LuNAC website (lunac.app).
Information We Collect
LuNAC collects and stores the following categories of information:
Account Information
If you create an account, we collect your email address and a password (hashed, never stored in plaintext). If you sign in with Google, we receive your email address and a unique identifier from Google. We use this information solely to authenticate you and manage your account.
Subscription and Purchase Information
If you purchase a premium subscription, we receive a purchase receipt from Apple or Google. This receipt is sent to our backend server for validation. We store your subscription status (tier, billing period, expiration date, and renewal status). We do not store your payment method, credit card number, or billing address — these are handled entirely by Apple or Google.
User-Created Content
Observations, schedule entries, and personal notes you create within LuNAC are stored locally on your device using AsyncStorage. This content is not transmitted to our servers unless you enable cloud sync in a future release.
User Preferences
Display settings (timezone mode, constellation frame, meteor density, and other preferences) are stored locally on your device using AsyncStorage. These are not transmitted to our servers.
Website and Waitlist
If you join the LuNAC waitlist or submit a contact form on our website, we collect your email address and optionally your first name. This information is used solely to notify you about LuNAC availability and updates. You may unsubscribe at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link in any email we send you.
Information We Do Not Collect
LuNAC does not collect or access your device location, contacts, camera, microphone, photos, or files. LuNAC does not use analytics, tracking, or advertising SDKs. LuNAC does not collect crash reports or usage telemetry.
How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect for the following purposes:
- Account information: to authenticate you and manage your session.
- Purchase receipts: to validate and maintain your subscription status.
- Waitlist email: to notify you when LuNAC becomes available and to send updates you have opted in to receive.
We do not use your information for advertising, profiling, or any purpose beyond operating the app and website. We do not send promotional emails, newsletters, or marketing communications beyond the launch notification unless you explicitly opt in to receive them.
How We Store Your Information
On Your Device
Authentication tokens are stored in SecureStore (encrypted, device-local storage). User-created content and preferences are stored in AsyncStorage (device-local storage). Uninstalling LuNAC removes all locally stored data.
On Our Server
If you create an account, your email address, hashed password, and subscription status are stored on our backend server (api.lunac.app). Access tokens are short-lived and refresh tokens can be revoked by signing out. Your information is stored securely and is not shared with third parties for marketing purposes. We implement reasonable security measures to protect your data.
Third-Party Services
Google Sign-In (Optional)
If you choose to sign in with Google, LuNAC uses Google's OAuth 2.0 protocol. Your Google ID token is sent to our backend server for verification. We receive your email address and a unique identifier. We do not access your Google contacts, files, or any other Google services. You may revoke access at any time from your Google account settings at myaccount.google.com under "Third-party apps with account access."
Apple App Store and Google Play
Subscription purchases are processed by Apple or Google. Purchase receipts are sent to our backend for validation. We do not receive or store payment details.
Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We do not share your information with third parties for marketing purposes. Information is shared only as described above (Google for authentication, Apple/Google for purchase validation).
Children's Privacy
LuNAC is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us at the address below and we will delete it.
Your Rights
You can unsubscribe from the waitlist at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link in any email we send you. You may also contact us to request deletion of your data.
Deleting Your Data
Local Data
You can delete all locally stored data by uninstalling LuNAC from your device.
Account Deletion
You can delete your account from within the app by navigating to More > Account > Delete Account. You can also request deletion by emailing hello@lunac.app from the email address associated with your account.
When you request account deletion, your account enters a 30-day grace period. During this period your account is suspended and you cannot use features that require an account. You can cancel the deletion at any time during the 30 days by signing back in to the app. After 30 days, your account and all associated data are permanently deleted and cannot be recovered.
The following data is permanently deleted when the grace period ends: your account profile (email, display name, authentication credentials), all cloud-synced observations, all cloud-synced calendar events, your synced app settings and preferences, all sessions, and subscription entitlement records.
Data Retained After Deletion
Security and audit logs may be retained for up to 12 months after account deletion for fraud prevention, abuse detection, incident response, and legal compliance. Limited billing and subscription records may be retained as required by applicable tax, accounting, fraud prevention, and dispute resolution obligations. These retained records do not include your personal content (observations, events, or settings).
Subscriptions
Deleting your LuNAC account does not cancel your App Store or Google Play subscription. To stop being charged, cancel your subscription separately through your device's subscription settings before deleting your account.
Google Account
You can disconnect your Google account at any time from the Settings screen within LuNAC.
Permissions Used
- Internet: required for account authentication and subscription validation. Not used when you are not signed in.
- Vibration: used for interaction feedback within the app.
No location, camera, microphone, or contacts permissions are requested.
Changes to This Policy
If this policy changes materially, the updated version will be included in a future application update and on the LuNAC website. The effective date above will be updated accordingly.
