Coming Soon to LuNAC: A Clearer Calendar, Repeating Events, and More Ways to Make It Yours

The full 200-year astronomy archive, available online and coming to the app in downloadable packs, joins clearer views, repeating events, personal colors, and everyday fixes.

The next LuNAC update brings a full 200-year astronomy archive and changes across the calendar, daily views, and personal events, along with fixes to the little things that can make using an app frustrating. There’s been a lot happening behind the scenes. Here’s what’s about to drop.

A clearer lunar calendar

Move between Year, Month, Week and Day views, with pinch zoom between Year, Month and Week and view buttons when you prefer. A compact year picker will help you explore the wider archive, and Week view will show the Moon's appearance for each day.

Month and Week views are getting clearer navigation, more distinct markers for today and your selected day, and better visibility for personal entries. Selecting a day will keep you on the calendar. When you want its full agenda, Open day takes you there, and Back to month returns you to your selection.

Busy days will indicate additional events when space is limited, while Sun constellation changes and retrograde starts and ends remain visible. Moon days lead, with Gregorian dates alongside them for reference.

Your day, easier to see

The Today view is being reorganized around your lunar date, the next Moon transition, and your schedule. Sky Alignment and Sky Events will expand when you want the details. Source and calculation details will remain available when you select an astronomical event, without repeated technical labels crowding the main view.

The Day agenda is also getting a cleaner layout. An empty schedule will offer a clear Add event action, with the full timetable available when you want it. Sky Notes will bring the day’s events ahead of expandable planetary-position details.

Repeating events, including lunar repeats

Repeating events are being built into this update, with daily, selected-weekday, lunar-monthly, and Gregorian-monthly options.

You’ll be able to schedule something for a particular Moon day each lunar month or keep an appointment tied to a Gregorian date. If the requested day doesn’t exist in a particular month, that month will be skipped. You’ll also be able to change or delete one occurrence or the whole series.

Adding an event will start with your selected Calendar day, and the form will let you change its date and enter a time using clearer 12-hour controls. Observation entries are getting clearer date and optional-time controls too.

Your categories. Your colors.

Personal categories and colors will help organize your observations and events. Use a category color to keep related entries consistent, or choose a different color for an individual entry you want to stand out.

Create your own named categories and choose their colors with a full color picker. Changing a category color will update entries that use it while preserving entries with their own color.

200 years of sky data, online and offline

LuNAC's full astronomy archive covers 200 years, from 1926 through 2125. You can explore the full range online in the Timeline, and the upcoming app update will let you download the ranges you want to keep offline.

The app will include 2026-2030 as its starter data. The rest of the archive will be available in five-year packs, so you can choose what to save without downloading all 200 years at once. Those year numbers describe the data coverage; the calendar itself still follows lunar months.

Offline Data in Settings will show your saved ranges and storage use, with controls to download more packs or remove downloaded ones. Removing a sky-data pack will keep your personal observations.

Saved-data-only mode will stop astronomy downloads and use the sky data already on your device. It won't switch off every network feature: sign-in and other connected account services may still use the internet.

Choosing to stay signed in will support offline access to saved data in the native app for up to 30 days after your last successful online account verification. Successful online verification renews that period. Signing in, verification and other connected account actions will still need internet access.

Your choice about syncing

Staying signed in and syncing personal data will be separate choices. Personal cloud sync will start off by default for each account on each device or browser, with its own control in More.

Enable it to sync observations, events, notes, categories, and preferences while online. Turning it off stops new personal sync transfers without deleting local entries or copies already saved to your account.

And yes, bugs are getting attention too

The upcoming update addresses duplicate scheduled entries after syncing, events remaining on their previous day after a date change, unclear browser password-reset feedback, and controls that didn’t clearly show their selected state.

There’s more flexibility coming to LuNAC, with a clearer calendar and fewer interruptions between you and what you came to do.
